Recycle your old appliance for free
Recycle with EE
Our customers can now recycle their old electrical items, when purchasing a new one from us. We offer a free in-store take back service to all customers who buy a new product and want to recycle their old appliance that is being replaced, whether you purchase in-store or online.
WEEE explained
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013 (WEEE) includes any items that require electricity, including battery sourced electricity. WEEE items can include larger items such as fridge freezers and washing machines or smaller items like toasters and kettles. WEEE was introduced in 2016 to make manufacturers and retailers responsible for collecting and recycling waste.
Why you should recycle and how we can help
In the UK retailers must provide a system to allow customers buying new electrical equipment to recycle their old items free of charge.
Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. Appliances that are not recycled may end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause contamination harming wildlife and human health.
Crossed out wheeled-bin symbol
Electrical equipment that can be recycled is now marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment, including those with the below symbol on, into your normal bin.
Take back in store
When you purchase a new appliance or product from EE, whether it is in-store or online, we will take back your old items that have the same function, in-store for free. Customers have 28 days from the date of purchase to return waste items to the EE store and we will take back all types of electrical equipment that we sell.
Please note that all major items must be dropped off at our Head Office at: James House, 36 Waters Meeting Industrial Estate, Britannia Way, BL2 2HH.
Recycling when selecting the delivery and installation service
For designated postcodes and appliances, we offer a delivery and installation service. If you are able to select this option, you can arrange for your unwanted electrical items that your purchase replaces to be collected and recycled. You can only book this service with a retail assistant at our EE store and only eligible collection areas and products are included in this offer. Collection of old appliances incurs a small collection charge starting from £20, dependent upon the size of the item. To find out more about this service please speak to one of our in-store retail assistants. If you are unable to utilise the delivery and installation service, then you can still return your waste goods to store.
