What is Freeview Play?

26th Feb 2020

Freeview Play gives you access to over 70 live TV channels, 15 HD channels and a suite of on-demand players, including BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, and More 4. Freeview Play is free and available on a range of Smart TVs (including LG, Sony, Panasonic and Mitchell & Brown); however, you will need to make sure you have a TV licence.

How does Freeview play work?

You’ll need an internet connection to make use of Freeview Play. Most Smart TV manufacturers have embraced the platform, but if your TV does not support it, you’ll need to purchase a Freeview Play box. It’s worth noting that these boxes are not cheap, so if you’re looking for a new TV you may want to make sure it has Freeview Play capabilities.

You don’t need a subscription for Freeview Play and it is completely free.

What channels are available on Freeview play?

You’ll get more than 70 channels to enjoy, with up to 15 HD channels to make sure you enjoy your favourite shows with a crystal-clear picture. What really makes the service stand out from the standard Freeview service is being able to catch-up on shows directly from the TV Guide, added on-demand apps, recommended shows and a host of other features.
